Biofeedback opens new possibilities for cultivation of the natural
capacity of human being on neuronal base. It helps brain to use its
working capacity more efficiently.
How does it work?
EEG Biofeedback is a
specific non-invasive self-control method. It consists in using
biofeedback in brain activity autoregulation.
We scan
electric activity of the brain and transfer it into a game. Thereby,
the client‘s brain is constantly informed about its actual
condition and performance. If the brain activity increases in
demanded EEG wave length, the player is rewarded by a sound signal,
which symbolizes one point. If the brain activity increases in the
area that is not demanded, sucess in game vanishes.
During
the EEG Biofeedback trainig the client
sits in a comfortable coach. He has a few electrodes placed on
his head to scan the development of the brainwaves, which are
subsequently transformed into the game. This game is commanded
just by his/her strenght of will - only by his/her brainwave activity
without using of any keyboard or mouse.
During
the EEG biofeedback training, terapeut
watches the development of electromagnetic signals emited from
client‘s brain on monitor. He also chooses difficulty and level of
the game.
Computer
scans the EEG waves of client‘s brain and shows them on monitor
which is placed in front of the client.
The whole
training is painless and effortless, so it is attractive especially
for children. EEG biofeedback is not accompanied by any hazards, it
does not have any side effects and it is not addictive. Its positive
effect is permanent.
The
effectiveness of trainings using this method is 60-100% depending on
the gravity of the disease. One session lasts 45-60 minutes depending
on the number of game laps. The training itself lasts 30 minutes for
younger children and 45 minutes for older chlidren and adults.
At the
beginning we recommend 3 sessions per week, consequently slowly
extending the intervals between particular sessions. It is also
possible to make a break. For better training effect, it is
advisable to train regularly at the same time – day and hour.
The usual
and optimal number of training sessions is 2 or 3 times per week.
After individual reviewing it is possible to train 5 times per week.
History
of EEG Biofeedback therapy
EEG
Biofeedback is a specific method of increasing of eligible activation
of neuronal system. In the first place, it is centred on training of
concentration, attention and self-control, impulsiveness and
hyperactivity reduction and intellect improvement.
This
therapy was discovered with a piece of luck by prof. Sterman in the
late sixties of the 20th
century. He worked on two independent experiments. In the first one
he tested the patience of cats – they get food every time after
they pressed a button. Cats which learned to wait went into the
second phase of training in which they had to press the button and
wait for a visual or acoustic signal. Profesor Sterman
discovered that the electrical activity of their brain was very
intensive between pushing the button and the signal. In the next
phase of this experiment cats got food only if their brain activity
was in the state of deep concentration. This cats were more patient
and their brain activity was different. In the second experiment he
used this cats for testing toxic material, which caused spasms and
halucinations to astronauts. He discovered that cats which finished
the experiment succesfully were more resistant than the cats which
did not act so well.
Another
experiments have shown that what was documented by cats was also
applicable for humans. Afterwards, a decision has been made to the
further development of this method into all areas connected with
brain imbalance. --->
